How to Create and Present Ten Little Monkeys Jumping on the bed
Many of you will know this poem as five little monkeys jumping on the bed, but our apron gives us lots of room so we can have 10 monkeys jumping on the bed. I think it's cuter and the children love it! Whenever my apron is all filled up with any kind of objects, I always get a remark such as "you're all filled up!" My reply would be, "yes I am!".
You will use the same verse, only starting at 10 instead of five and counting backwards.
So the first verse is
10 Little monkeys jumping on the bed,
One fell off and bumped his head,
mama called the doctor and the doctor said,
No more monkeys jumping on the bed!
Then, nine little monkeys, eight little monkeys, seven little monkeys, etc. etc.
Sometimes I change the very last line of this rhyme from "No more monkeys jumping on the bed!" to "That's what you get for jumping on the bed!" In between stanzas I often count all the monkeys together so we know how many there are, but not always. And when I drop each monkey I turn them over so their head is facing down towards the floor, because I'm trying to drop them on their head just like the rhyme says.
I have added to this story by having a stethoscope which I often give to the teacher or some other adult in the room, and they can be part of the rhyme by repeating the last line of the doctor: no more monkeys jumping on the bed. If there is no one who wants to help, that's fine, I just don't use the stethoscope. When I get down to having three or four monkeys left on the apron, I will often say OUCH and hold my head for a second, after I drop them on the floor. I don't start out with that because I find that it makes the children too loud and sometimes out of control.

How to create the story? Do you have 10 monkeys? If not, I do! I have been collecting all the monkeys I can find from all of the thrift stores that I go to. If you would like a variety of 10 monkeys, please visit the store on this website or send me an email at mary-elin@hotmail.com. Each monkey comes with his/her own seatbelt, which is a Velcro product called "one wrap". It needs to be wrapped around the monkey for it to stick to the apron. I do have quite a few monkeys, but they are of course limited to what I have found over the last year. And when I have no more, I have no more. Sorry.
